Hair / Rains / Pate Families of GA and TX

I am trying to figure out the relationship of the Pate, Hare and the Rains family.

Speculating that Sarah L Raines b.1822, GA; Mary Ann Rains b.1838, GA and John M Rains are children of John Raines of Twiggs Co, GA. John Raines / Rains is listed in the 1830 and 1840 censuses of Twiggs Co, GA and would have been born around 1800.

My g.grandfather was William Riley Pate b.1857, Twiggs Co, GA; d.21 Dec 1921, Liberty Co, TX. The place of his death was in the Hightower Community. They had moved there from Brazos Co, TX about 1905.

William Riley Pate was the son of William Thomas Pate b.1831, Twiggs Co, GA; d.1894, Brazos Co, TX and Mary Ann Rains b.1838, Twiggs Co, GA; d.1921, Grimes Co, TX. They are listed in the 1860 census of Tyler Co, TX.

My father had told me that his grandfather lived on the Old Hare place in Hightower, Liberty Co, TX. I had incorrectly assumed that the Hare family had lived there before William Riley Pate.

What seems to have happened is that William Odis Hair (spelled both Hare and Hair and Otis / Odis) moved there after the death of William Riley Pate and his wife. He was born in 1895 in Brazos Co, TX and died in 1979 in Montgomery Co, TX. He is buried in the Cleveland City Cemetery.

He lived in the same community as the Pates in Brazos Co, TX and the question is why he moved onto the homesite of William Riley Pate. I think it has something to do with the Rains family ties ... but have not yet got it figured out. He is listed in the 1900 census as William Otis Streetman. My guess is that he was born out of wedlock, since Caroline and William Streetman married in 1899.

I have figured out that William Otis Hair's mother was Caroline Hair b.1878, TX. Caroline's mother was Margaret Elizabeth Rains b.1851, GA. I think that her husband was Pendelton G Hair b.1849 GA. They married 7 Sep 1870, Tyler Co, TX. The marriage record only has initials and they don't exactly match.

Margaret Hare is listed as a widow in the 1880 census of Brazos Co, TX with her brother Ivison Rains and John M Rains. Iveson L Rains death certificate in 1939 gives his parents names as John M Rains and Margaret Sanders b.1830, GA. I have not yet found a record of John M Rains.

What I am thinking, but have not established is that Mary Ann Rains b.1838, Twiggs Co, GA; who married William Thomas Pate is a sister of John M Rains, who married Margaret Sanders; and a sister of Sarah L Raines, who married Charmick Tharp Davis.

I have found several census records in Texas that has the Hare/Hair and Rains families together and several marriage records between Hare and Rains in Tyler County. Also found variant spellings of Rains -- Raines and Raynes.
