Hello. Here's a possible update to the original story that you may find interesting.... My cousin picked up an old and old rifle for sale down near the TN and GA border... below Chattanooga TN. The man carved what looked like his name on it... at first it looked like "Frank HAIN". We wondered Frank HAIN or HAIM of HAINES or HAINS. We were told that the old rifle came from the Sand Mountain TN area. We learned about a Frank HAINES who had ~ 60 acres in the Ringgold Gap GA area. He would have been 60 yrs in 1860... which means that he might have been born in ~1800. They say that Frank had a few daughters and one was named Tilly/Matilda. The rifle is a smooth bore, 1/2stock, walnut, musket, home made and used parts from various rifles.... that he may have brought over the years. It's a good hunting musket... could be pieced as late as the 1920s. Some of the parts are from the Civil War era and earlier. Cousin had not sold it yet and would be willing to sell it to the person's family. I told him that I'd post it on a few boards for him. So, here I am. I'll update as we find out more research. If it looks like your family... let me know and I'll put you in touch with my cousin. Peace and blessings. Dolores Cobb Phifer HAINES, HAIN, HAIM, HAINS Notify Administrator about this message?
