Overstreet Haile, son of John Haile and Nancy Overstreet

I am a descendant of Overstreet Hale (Haile), b 1770. I am confused about who Overstreet's father John was descended from. Some genealogies show John's father as being Nicholas III, others show his father as Richard, son of Nicholas II, and one even shows Overstreet's descent as being Nicholas I>George>George>William>Richard>John. Does ANYONE know which one is most likely to be true? I know that the Haile family married into the Overstreet family at several points, so there are plenty out there with Overstreet as a first or middle name.

And, does anyone know if Denzil Mauldin's books are available for purchase anywhere?
