I am a Hale by birth, doing research into ancestors back in the 1200s. As expected, my family changed the spelling of our last name several times over the generations. I am currently looking for information on the man known as Roger Hailes, Roger Halys, Roger de Halys, Roger de la Haile, etc. He was born about 1274, his father was also named Roger, and he was married to a woman named Alice Skogan (Skrogins, Skogin, Skogins). One of their children was named Nicholas and he is my ancestor. Some of the information I've found says that Roger was married a second time to a Marguerite Frances de Berkeley. Everyone seems to agree that Roger was the father of Alice de Halys, who married Thomas Plantagenet, the younger (half) brother of the Edward II, King of England. Where the records differ is who the mother of Alice was. Some have her as being Alice Skogins, and other Marguerite de Berkeley. Is Roger an ancestor of anyone on this list? If so, can you clarify the wife situation? Thanks a lot for your help! Ricka Notify Administrator about this message?
