This is an update...
Have found the family through access to the census records. Bernard was listed as a splicer, Micheal my grandfather was a laborer.

My great grandfather, another, Micheal was a fireboat captain for New York City Fire Dept.

Grandmother Mildred Uhl, is still something of a problem isolating her. As I have two families with Mildreds that are the right age.
