Hi Larry,
Just a follow up and correction to your last post. You are correct that Richard and Dollance Hagerman were 2 of the sons of Barent and Mary (Pittenger) Hagerman. But they were not part of the 4 original Hagermans that appear in Monmouth County in the late 1770s.
The four Hagermans that appear in Monmouth County after or around the time of the Revolution were Dollance, Cornelius, James and Barent. All were probably born in mid 1700s, since there is reference to Revolutionary War service or aid for Dollance, Cornelius and James. I think Barent was the youngest, he lived to 1801. (It is my unproven opinion, only, that they are the sons of Barent Hagerman of Middlesex County, son of Dollance Hagerman of Middlesex County, son of Denys Hagerman of Flatbush, Long Island, son of Adrian Hagerman, immigrant from Holland in 1650s, I hope I didn't leave out a generation).
Of the early Monmouth County Hagermans, Dollance, prob. born in mid 1700s was probably the father of Barent (b. 1770, I think, I'm doing this from memory) who married Mary Pittenger in 1795 and had the abovementioned Richard, Dollance (born 1798) etc. Your list from the LDS is correct, with regard to their children. However Richard was not from Green Grove. The census and deed records show he was born in the Tennent/Englishtown areas and later lived in Howell, along with another brother, Jacob. Green Grove is actually near the Shark River area, both of which are part of present day Neptune, New Jersey. (Where our John was from).
From what I can gather of the 4 early Hagermans, Dollance lived in western Monmouth County, Englishtown/Freehold area. Same with Cornelius. James was in Shrewsbury and Barent in Dover Township (which is now in Ocean County).
I still have not been able to link our John Hagerman to these families, but I think they are related.
I also note that in the 1793 Militia Census for Monmouth County there is also a Johnson Hagerman. I believe he was probably born in the 1770s. I recently found an old unrecorded deed that shows his wife as Rebeckah and they lived in the Freehold area in the 1790s to about 1800. I don't know what happened to them after that.
