Jean, From "Around Mason, Ohio: A Story" by Rose Marie Springman 1982.
page 7 - 1810 list of people that paid taxes in Deerfield twp on land they owned-Ruliff SCHENCK, Walter TUCKER.
page 19- Ruliff SCHENCK, who was known as the "Old Injun" because of his Indian-like habits, died on Dec 28, 1831. He was 65 years old. He and his wife Hannah owned a farm southwest of Palmira (later changed to Mason). They had come from N.J. many years before. Ruliff was buried at Unity Cemetery.(Note- Unity cemetery was later moved to Rose Hill cem.)
page 31- Hannah SCHENCK was buried beside her husband, at Unity Cemetery after her death on Oct 12, 1847 age 73 years.
Cora SCHENCK was a teacher at the High School in 1894.
William Schenck was a member of the board of education in 1888 & 1889.
I wonder if Ruliff SCHENCKs wife Hannah Hageman was related to Henry Hageman and his wife, Rhoda STOUT that came to Deerfield Twp. from N.J. in 1828 when he was 30 years old and she was 23? They had 10 children.
Thanks for the information you sent me.
Ella
