A cousin, who is in the direct line of Hagans from Alabama and Georgia is having his DNA tested. We have found many Hagan's in AL, GA and NC, MD, SC, but have no idea which lineage is ours. We have hit that proverbial "brick wall" of Hagan's and have no idea which line we may be from. We are hoping that the DNA test will help us know if we come from The Immigrant, the SC group, the NC group or where. If ANY of you Hagan men could/would be willing to have your DNA tested, maybe we can get a good base started and find out where our lines came from. We are using FAMILYTREE DNA and they can be found on Google under that name. The website explains all about the test and what it they do. The cost for a men's test is $160 for a 12 marker (explained on website) test. The Y-Chromosone in men is passed from father to son, unchanged from generation to generation, going back hundreds of years/generations. Women's DNA passes differently, therefore testing women's DNA won't work in the same way. Women are tested but for different areas. Hope you will think about it and will get tested, not only for yourself, but for others. This is a way to find out where our lines come from. Maybe we can get past many of those Brick Walls!! Thanks!
