Meaning of "Haga" family name?

I would like to find out the meaning of the "Haga" family name. My father was Emory Earl Haga (b.1920, d.1988) and was the son of Virgil Haga of Grayson County, Virginia. After reading some of the messages concerning the Haga name, I can see that there are several "splinter" branches of the family tree. I was told that our family originated in Germany, but I do not know where. I have done other searches on the web and found a town named "Haga" in Sweden, near the city of Stockholm.
I am very confused. Please help.
