My grandfather was John Albert Hadwin and he was born in Whitehaven, Cumbria. He married Catherine Elizabeth Allen and they lived at 39 Highfield Road, Old Swan, West Derby, Liverpool. At one time he worked on Lord Derby's estate, with the horses. He used to annoy my grandmother by whistling when he brushed his shoes, just as he did when brushing the horses!
They had 5 children - 4 girls and a boy. My mother was the youngest - Julia Maria (I have all the other names if anyone is interested) Julia married William Thomas Easton and moved to Irby on the the Wirral where I was born 65 years ago. I remember her telling me about visiting a (great?) Aunt Hannah in Cark, Cumbria as a child. I lived near West Kirby until 20 years ago when I moved to the Highlands of Scotland. Julia has one grandson, Martin Vaughan Winchester, born 1969.
I became a Quaker when I moved up to Scotland, so I am fascinated by the reference to the Hadwins as possibly having been a Quaker family!!!
