I have now discovered that the John Haddy that I was looking for was born 1836 in St Germans, Cornwall but was in fact baptised John Haddy Hoskin and is listed in the St Germans parish register as the "bastard of Elizabeth Hoskin". Sadly no father was named and there is no father named either on the 1859 Marriage Certificate to Fanny Spiller. Although he married as John Haddy Hoskin my gg grandfather b. 1859 was named George Spiller Haddy. John and Fanny appear to have had at least four sons - George Spiller b 1859, John T b. 1863, William b 1869 and Frederick b. 1875. The family appeared to move between St Germans, Menheniot and Gunnislakeand John and George were both miners. John and Fanny were traced on the 1901 census to Devonport were he was still working at the naval dockyard.
As there appears to have been no reference to John's father it can only be surmised that it was a "Haddy" given the christian name "John Haddy" Hoskin.
If anyone has Haddy - Hoskin links I would be grateful for more information.
