Magdalene HADDEN b. 1846-47 Ontario/m. 1869 John F. VANHORN/died Tacoma, Wash.

I'm tracing the family of Magdaline "Maggie" HADDEN, born November 1847 (or a year or so earlier) at Woodstock, Oxford Co., Ontario, and husband John F. VAN HORN (Vanhorn) born 1842 Hillier, Prince Edward Co., Ontario, who married in 1869 at Belleville, Hastings County, Ontario.

I'm a HADDEN descendant and believe Magdalene "Maggie" Hadden was related to our line who settled in Woodstock, Oxford County, Ontario, about 1842 -- Archibald HADDEN and wife Elizabeth WILSON of County Tyrone, Ireland.

The 1869 marriage record has Maggie Hadden's residence as Belleville, and her parents' names as Father: (blank first name) Hadden, Mother: Mary Hadden. Had Maggie's father died when she was young, and she didn't recall his name? Or, was her mother never married and Maggie was born out-of-wedlock?

Witnesses to the 1869 marriage were Kate Hadden and J. A. M. Gilbert of Belleville. Kate (surely named Katherine/Catherine) must have been a relative -- a sister or first cousin?

John F. Vanhorn's parents were Richard and Adeline Vanhorn. Both bride and groom were "Wesleyan Methodist."

In the 1881 census, John F. and Magdalene Vanhorn were living in Picton, Prince Edward Co., Ontario, where John was a merchant. Other records show his occupation as grocer and soap maker.

John F. Vanhorn and Magdalene Hadden's children, from Ontario birth records and censuses, were Mary H. (born abt 1873), Richard (born 1876), and William Harold (born 1882). Daughter Mary was probably named "Mary Hadden" for Magdalene's mother.

In 1900, John F. and Magdalene Vanhorn were living in Tacoma, Pierce Co., Washington (U.S. state). Magdalene said she had emigrated to the U.S. in 1890, while John F. said he had emigrated to the U.S. in 1864 and had been in the U.S. 36 years (obviously not the actual truth, though he may have come to the U.S. in the 1860s and returned to Canada). John was a soap maker.

By 1910, John F. Van Horn was married to a second wife, Lizzie, of German birth, and had two step-children in his household in Tacoma. His occupation was a laborer in a cemetery -- perhaps a sexton or caretaker?

If you have any information on the Hadden or Van Horn families of Ontario (Oxford Co., Hastings Co. and Prince Edward Co.) and Tacoma, Washington, I'd appreciate hearing from you, and will be glad to share what I've found so far.
