Hacketts of Kilkenny
Posted by: Dave Crowley (ID *****1099) Date: November 09, 2007 at 16:17:48
  of 1863

I am seeking information about Hacketts who lived in the Freshford-Tullaroan area in northern County Kilkenny. They appear to be connected with the townlands of Rathmacan and Brittas (according to the parish register and the Tithe Applotment books).

More specifically, my ancestor was Richard Hackett, who was born around 1799. Around 1825 he married Catherine Butler from the townland of Williamstown in neighbouring County Tipperary (Ballingarry parish).

It seems that the Hacketts and Butlers involved were (very) minor branches of the well known Anglo-Norman families. Richard Hackett is described on his daughter's death certifcate (many years later) as "gentleman".
