Feb. 16-John A. Brooks, Confederate veteran of the Pendleton road section, died this afternoon at 4:00 at his home, where he had lived for 60 years. He was 80 years old.
Married twice, his first wife was Miss Annie Hackett and his second, who survives, Mrs. Maggie Brown. Five children by the first marriage also survive as follows: W. D. (Willie?), W. S. (Samuel?), and Lewis Brooks of Pendleton and A. E. (Adolpheus E.) Brooks of Bessemer City, NC., and Mrs. Nannie Sweeney of Pendleton. Three brothers Preston B. Brooks of Anderson, Henry Brooks of Belton and Warren Brooks of Honea Path and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Crawford of Honea Path and Mrs. Nancy Crawford of Easley also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock Rev. T. L. Bryson officiating, at the Sandy Springs Methodist Church, of which he was a member.
Rev. M. M. (Maxie McBride) Brooks of Central is a nephew.

Mr. Brooks was a son of the late John A. and Anne Hackett Brooks, a native of the Walker McElmoyle community of Anderson County.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lula Owen Brooks of the Six and Twenty community; four sons, John of Easley, Ernest of Anderson, Jason of Liberty, Route 2, & Amos Brooks of Holly Hill; 3 daughters; Miss Lola Brooks of Oregon, Mrs. Ralph Johnson of Pelzer and Mrs. Alvin Rector of Greenville; so grandchildren and one great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nannie Sweeney of Anderson, and one brother, A. E. Brooks of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held at Corinth Baptist Church No. 2 at 4:30 pm Wednesday with the Rev. Coley Cleveland and the Rev. Ralph Sassard officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ansel Owen, Martin Casey, Clem Brook, Whit Brooks, Dewey Sweeney and Ethridge Sweeney. Honorary escort will be deacons of Six and Twenty Baptist Church and Brooks Gillespie, Guy Davis, Atley Griffith, Lawrence Taylor, Gene Rhodes, Harold Mullikin, Gil Morgan and George Anderson.
The body will be at the home of his son, Ernest Brooks after 10 am Wednesday.

CENTRAL-Apr.4 Lewis Brooks, 58 died at a local hospital at 10:15 pm Monday following two years of declining health and two weeks of critical illness.
He was a son of the late John and Nancy Hackett Brooks. He was born and reared in the Walker mcELmoyle section of Anderson County and had lived in Central 20 years.
His widow, Mrs. Ruby Head Brooks of Central survives.
He was married three times. His first marriage was to the former Miss Lennie Harbin. From that union two children srvive, Albert Brooks of Cental and Mrs. N. J. McCoy of Easley.
His second wife was the former Miss Zelma Wardlaw. From that union a sonc, Thurston Brooks of Gastonia, NC survives.
Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Nan B. Swaney of Anderson, and two brothers, W. B. Brooks of Pendleton and A. E. Brooks of Charlotte.
Services will be at Cannon memorial Baptist Church Wednesday at 3 pm conducted by the Rev. Lemuel Day and the Rev. John T. Turner. Inerment will be in Mr. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clem T. Brooks, Whit Brooks, John Brooks, Jason Brooks, Ernest Brooks and James Brooks.
The body is at the residence.

A. E. BROOKS
Central-Adolphus E. Brooks, 74, died at a Charlotte hospital early Monday morning following eight weeks of illness and several years of declining health.
He was the son of the late John and Ann Hackett Brooks and was born and reared in the Labanon community of Anderson County. He was a retired textile worker and has been a resident of Charlotte for the past 25 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Lawing of Charlotte; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Nan Swaney of Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 pm at Duckett Funeral home by the Rev. W. P. Lippard. Burial will be in Pendleton Methodist Church Cem.
Pallbearers will be Ovid Canup, Thuston Canup, Melvin Cobb, Ed Chastain, Walter Atkinson and R. T. Kinsler.
The body is at the home and the family is at the home of J.J. Canup.
Duckett Funeral Home is in charge.

LIBERTY-Henry Herbert Brooks, 63, of Greentree Drive, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Palmetto Health Baptist, born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Albert and Sadie Simpson Brooks.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Gambrell Brooks of the home; two daughters, Cathy Watson and Crystal Gill, both of Liberty, a son, Randy Brooks of Liberty; a son, Randy Brooks of Liberty; three brothers, Ronnie Brooks of Mississippi, Johnny Brooks of Greenville and Kenneth Brooks of Easley; three sister, Martha Ellenberg and Louise Merck, both of Six Mile , and Ann Merck of Liberty and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 PM Friday, April 15, 2005, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 PM. Burial will be at Mr. Zion Cemetery in Central.
