In appreciation of Felix Unger's reply to Julie Hachez-Carrière some years ago, I decided to use his idea of searching online telephone directories to gain family insights. I searched only for individuals who spelled their surname Hachez, as my ancestors did. I used this directory: http://www.infobel.com/en/world Individuals with that surname were found in just two countries in Europe, Belgium with 117 and France with 50. Family history for one Hachez line had them settling in Belgium and just across the border in northeast France, then one man from that family moving to Bremen, Germany, where he married and had more than a dozen children. One of his descendant founded the Hachez Chocolate firm in Bremen in 1890, still there today, and one descendant came to Wisconsin, USA. Having the largest number of Hachez listings in Europe occur in Belgium is consistent with the family history. And of the 50 Hachez listings in France, 23 or almost half reside in the 4 French regions nearest Belgium [Nord Pas de Calais [7], Picardie [7], Haute-Normandie [5], and Champagne-Ardenne [4]. This also matches early Hachez history. Today there are Hachez individuals in the Ile de France region around Paris; in Brittany, France's northwest corner; and also a good number in the south of France near the Mediterranean. But the largest cluster of people with the surname spelled Hachez are in Belgium and Northeast France -- 140 of 167 or 84 percent. I am interested in hearing from anyone about the Hachez family in this area of Europe or in the USA. Barbara Notify Administrator about this message?
