Frank Haberman was born an Tuisbendorf, Austria on Sept. 1, 1840. In the year 1873 he was married to Victoria Winkler. Three years later he left Austria for America, coming direct to this place and locating on a homestead two miles east of this city, at which place death overtook him.

At the time Mr. Haberman came here there were no railroads, the nearest market being Heron Lake, the trip to that place being made with oxen or on foot. His first house was made of sod, and hay was used for fuel. When these things are taken into consideration, one can imagine the hardships that one endured.

In 1877 he wrote for his wife to come to America, who arrived shortly afterwards. Mr. Haberman going to Winona to meet her. During the year the grasshoppers destroyed the crops, he left his family to go to Iowa where he worked in the harvest fields.

Deceased leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, four daughters: Mrs. Anna Hallamack, Mrs. John Wisdorf, and Miss Regina, and Amelia; two sons; F.H. Haberman of Avoca and Conrad, who resides at home.
