When my grandmother was born her parents pierced her ears and put tiny gold hoops in them. Apparently the parents did this with all of their children. My grandmother said it was done before she was 24 hours old so that no one could give her the "evil eye". There was a symbolism behind the hoops also which I much regret that I've forgotten. Sadly,She is dead now that I am wise enough to ask questions. Does anyone know if this is a Romany cutom? Does anyone know the symbolism behind the hoops?
