Hi Dona - you may be interested in this information if don't already have it.

A brief outline of our Mullins ancestry from the files of Anna Lee Davis Goin:

I. John Mullins known to be living Amelia Co., VA (Colony) before 1741. His wife was Susannah Meigs Mullins. George the Second of Great Britain in Lunenburg Co., VA, granted John Mullins 520 acres of land on the 5th day of July 1751 at the Colony and Dominion of Williamsburg. Charlotte Co., VA was formed 1764-65 from Lunenburg Co., VA. John Mullins died Charlotte Co., May 1772 (I have a copy of his will). Daughters received land and sons received Sterling.

II. Son David D. Mullins bore 1740-1750 Amelia Co., VA. His wife was Athaliah Mullins. They were living Charlotte Co., VA in the first Federal Census 1790. The 5th day of June 1780 David D. Mullins buys the 120 acres of land from Anderson Fambrough and Agness (Mullins) his wife in Charlotte Co., VA, being a part of the tract of land whereon John Mullins formerly lived (land willed to Agness Mullins by her father) .

Here three of David D. Mullins' daughters married three Gwinn brothers. May 14, 1785 Newraney marries Almond Gwinn. Susannah Bly Mullins Nov 15, 1985 marries Bartholomew Gwinn. Agness Mullins married William Gwinn Aug 7, 1787.

The Gwinns all lived in Halifax Co., VA, which joined Charlotte Co. on the west. After about 10 yrs. David D. Mullins sold this land and moves to Halifax Co., VA, with his wife and unmarried children. In Halifax Co., VA he purchases land from his Gwinn daughters' father-in-law {Bartlett Gwinn}. David D. Mullins and wife gave their son Abner (only son) 100 acres of land and they lived with Abner.

III. Son Abner was married in Halifax Co., VA to Jedidah Hampton Nov 1789. About 1799 Abner sells the land in Halifax Co., VA. He and his family including David D. and Athaliah (his parents), his sister [sie] Mary Watts Mullins who had married John Lane in Halifax Co., Jedidah Mullins' parents Micajah Hampton and wife Ann and their unmarried sons all migrated to Buncombe Co., NC where they all are among the earliest settlers of that County.

A few years later Abner's three sisters, who married the three Gwinn brothers, his two brothers-in-law, Hosea Hampton and family and Jobe Hampton and family migrate from Halifax Co., VA to Cocke Co., Tenn, which is west of Buncombe Co., NC. Here they all are members of the Big Pigeon Baptist Church including Abner's wife and son David's wife Rebecca whom he had married in Buncombe Co., NC.

It was on the bank of the Big Pigeon River where the Keelboats were built. When Abner and family and son David (My line) and wife Rebecca and four small children decided to leave Buncombe Co., NC in 1818 and come to Missouri Territory .
David D. Mullins and wife Athaliah migrated with their daughter [sie] Mary Watts Mullins and husband John Lane and small son to Wilson Co., Tenn. Here David D. Mullins died 1820-1830 and Athaliah died 1830-1840 and are buried in the Lane Cemetery.

Micajah Hampton & wife Ann and their son who had married in Buncombe Co. did not migrate to Missouri Territory.

In 1818 Abner and family and David and wife and four small children leave in their Keelboats for Missouri Territory and arrived at the mouth of the Missouri River where St Louis now is in the early winter of 1818. Here the French offered them home sites and pasture for their cows & horses. The next spring they started up the Missouri River. Abner, his wife, sons and daughters settled in Cooper Co., but David, Rebecca and four children settled in Howard Co. In time David and family finally wind up in Mercer Co., MO, among the earliest settlers there. About 1835 Abner sold his land in Cooper Co. and purchased land in Saline Co., MO. In the meantime the Gwinn brothers and Hosea Hampton and family migrate to Saline Co. via Keelboats. Hosea's brother Jobe lived out his life in Cocke Co., Tenn.
