Greetings. Perhaps you can help me with a Fannie Gwin or Gwinn, born about 1840, shown as residing in Jefferson Co. Ala., 1870 census. At about that time she became the widow of John T. Gwin and moved with her 3 children to Sugar Valley, Georgia. I badly need her maiden name. I suspect she was a McNeely from Greenville, or Spartanburg S.C. At about that same time, she re-married to an H.C. Stansbury whom she likely met in Alabama. Shortly after that she was in Sugar Valley with her brood, and died as his widow in 1902.
I suspect the name Fannie may not have been her christened name. Her presumed tombstone is inscribed with only "F. Stansbury, 1902.
Any help would be appreciated.
