Looking for anyone researching the Guinn [various spellings] family of Granger, Jefferson, Anderson and Knox Co., TN prior to 1860. My husband’s line is through Hamilton Guinn of Jefferson and Anderson Co., TN [1811-1870] he married Charity Coppock 3/28/1835 in Jefferson Co., TN then moved to Anderson Co.

I have been researching this family for over five years and just moved back to Knoxville TN and found new information on this line. Currently based on land records and census records I have found several Guinns [various spellings] living in Granger/Jefferson Co from 1793 thru 1840 after that the Guinns were found in Anderson and Knox Co. According to other researchers some of the line moved to Texas Co., MO and another was said to have moved to Wayne Co., IN

I have found the following:
1793
John Gwin purchased 100 acres from the state of NC [south side Lost Creek] Jefferson Co., TN
William Guin purchased 200 acres from the state of NC [Buffalo Run] Granger Co., TN

1797
John Gwin married Mary Hanks 10/24/1797 Jefferson Co., TN
William Guynn married Rana Neal 7/18/1797 Granger Co., TN

Note: I believe the two men were brothers the only thing that separated their land was the Holston River John on one side and William on the other [based on land records and old maps of the area]

1802-1818 Court Records Granger Co., TN following Guinn’s listed:
William, Joseph, Samuel and James
Note no tax records for Jefferson Co., TN

1809 Jefferson Co., TN land records show John purchasing an additional 50 acres from Wm Morris.

1810 Granger Co., TN census listed two Guinn’s [this from a book no micro film available]
William 26/45 [1765-1784] also taxed on 200 acres
3 females 1 16/26 [1784-1794] 2 under 10

Joseph 26/45 [1765-1784]
1 female 16/26
1 male under 10

1810 Jefferson Co., TN marriage records list a John Guinn married Charity Mills 3812/1810. Found researchers stating that this John moved to Indiana and he died before 1850 I have found no records to prove above but did find a Charity Guinn listed on the 1850 census. See below he sold land in 1820
1819 William Guinn sold 200 acres in Buffalo Hollow [Granger Co] to Samuel Collins and purchased 200 acres from Hansel Wright in Anderson Co., TN [Raccoon Valley area.] I believe this is the same William it stated “William of Granger Co., TN”

No census records available for Granger and Jefferson 1820

1820 John and Charity Guinn sold 238 acres Lost Creek area to James Haworth
1820 George Guinn married Elizabeth Brummett 3815/1820 Jefferson Co., TN

1830 no Guinn’s in Granger following listed in Jefferson Co., TN
John 70/80 1 male under 5 [this should be the John that married Mary Hanks]
William H 60/70 5 males [5 thru 20 yrs]
Joseph 40/50 5 males [under 5 thru 16 yrs]
David 20/30 [just married wife Elizabeth Carr they married 9/19/1929] note I have found no one researching him

1831 William Guinn married Lydia Miles 1/16/1831

1833 Estate of John Guinn administrators William Guinn and widow Lydia Guinn. Same years Lydia sold land to Thomas Elmore. Lydia later remarried Martin Gibson and is found on the 1850 Jefferson Co census she was 40 [born 1810] note the only Guinn listed in 1850 is her daughter Lydia age 13

1834William R Groen [?] probate no will
Joseph Guinn sold land to James Briggs
William R Guinn married Lucinda Pague 6/2/1834 [I do not find anyone researching him listed with this wife]

1835 Hamilton Guinn married Charity Coppock 3/28/1835 MY HUSBANDS LINE

1835 Jefferson Co Tax list: Alexander William R and James

1840 census
Jefferson Co
Joseph 50/60 3 males 10 thru 20 years]
Lydia 30/40 widow of John no sons just one daughter
William R 30/40 no males
Hamilton 20/30 2 males under 5 [James 1835 and Franklin 1839]
Henry O 30/40        1 male 5/10
Anderson Co
Samuel 50/60 3 males 10-40 he is not found again nor can I find a Samuel on earlier records except the tax list Granger Co

I am not going into the 1850 census ……as stated before my husbands line stayed in TN lived in Anderson Co 1850 son James moved to Union and lived near his father in law then the family came back to Knox Co and lived in Byington Station, Knox Co. area off Solway Road/Guinn Rd this is near the Anderson Co line at the Clinch River.

Would like to compare notes with anyone interested in this line please email me at gmfrontporch@yahoo.com
