Sorry it didn't match. One other possibility that could tie him into Ludwig would be the sons of Ludwig that their are no records for(that I have seen anyway). Which would include:

I. Ignatius b. 1810
IV. Joseph (still alive in 1885)
V. Theodore

Anyone of these Gutzwiller's could have been the grandfather to you're John (b.1848 - d.1907). Would also recommend you write to the following Gutzwiller "historian" (she's the one who gave me most of the information I have) - she might be able to help you. She doesn't "do" computer, but here's her postal address:
