It may mean nothing but.......Whitfield County was formed from Murray County in 1851. Josephus Guthrie was living in Whitfield County in the 1860 Census. There's an 1854 list for the Masonic Grand Lodge of Georgia, Dalton Lodge, and one of its members is a Joseph Guthrie. There's a good possibility that Josephus and Joseph are one and the same.
By the age of the daughter in the 1860 Census, Josephus would have married ca. 1852. As he appears to have been in Murray County at the time, you might shift your search to that county.
You may also want to check some 1850 indexes for Georgia and South Carolina to see where he might have been during that enumeration.
