You can probably answer your question about Mary by finding the William Guthrie family in the 1850 Census. Look at census indexes for SC, NC, and TN and see if you can locate him. He was NOT in Greene Co., TN. when the 1850 Census was enumerated. William Guthrie can be found on page 163 of the 1840 Census for Spartanburg Co., SC but was NOT there when the 1850 Census was enumerated. So, in the year 1850, he was somewhere between Spartanburg Co., SC and Greene Co., TN.
