Lem, I have not tried to track anyone down that might claim John Guthrey for DAR membership although readily admit that there are probably folks who have done so. Also, I would like to have one of those descendants tested for DNA to verify my belief that this John will be a brother to Travis of Halifax Co. and to William of Cumberland Co. My efforts of trying to place descendants with older heads of household in Halifax Co. is an effort to try to assign descendants to the three or more, apparently unrelated, Guthrie factions in that county. I remain amazed at the number of Guthries (or variant spellings) that there were in a 50-75 mile radius of Halifax Co., VA. - 1790-1800. If the name was a common name that would explain the high frequency but it is not a common name so the numbers are quite impressive. I can assign everybody in Halifax Co. to a HOH so far except for George Guthrie who married there in 1815 and Richard B. Guthrie who is first noted in those records in 1819 and 55 years old in the 1850 Census. He appears to have been dead by 1856. Notify Administrator about this message?
