Travis Guthrey of Halifax Co., VA.

I'll try to list the descendants of Travis Guthrie who is first mentioned in the Halifax Co., VA. records in 1768. I believe he was a young but independent man at that time. Recent DNA tests on a known descendant of Travis Guthrie
match a known descendant of William Guthrie of Cumberland Co., VA. in 66 of 67 alelles. William Guthrie is known to be a son of Thomas Guthrey of Cumberland Co., VA. as named
in the will. In that will is a son named Francis, as the handwriting was interpreted, but that name must be Travis
as proven by the DNA results. Both William of Cumberland and Travis of Halifax have to be sons of Thomas Guthrey of Cumberland Co., VA. Travis Guthrie of Halifax Co., VA. died sometime in 1818. He was listed in the 1818 personal property tax lists for Halifax Co. but was not listed in 1819 or thereafter. The children of Travis Guthrie are:

THOMAS GUTHRIE
born 1772 at the latest....first listed as a tithable in the 1788 personal property tax list(had to be 16 years old to be a tithable)....thought to have married Mary "Polly"
Baskerville in Cumberland Co., VA. on 16 DEC 1793...last listing on the Halifax Co. personal property tax lists was 1827.....1828 and thereafter the listing was for either Mary or Polly Guthrie so I believe Thomas had died by 1828.
In the will of John Baskerville in Carroll County, VA., proven JUL 1848, he names sister, Polly Guthrie of Halifax Co., VA. I do not have a date for the writing of the will.

WILLIAM GUTHRIE
not sure of birth year..... but William was listed on the Halifax Co., Va. personal property tax lists in 1798...was married to Nancy Davis on 1 JAN 1805 in Halifax Co., VA...
William was last listed on the Halifax Co. personal property tax lists in 1821.....in 1822 and thereafter, Nancy is listed so I believe William Guthrie had died by 1822. Nancy Davis Guthrie was 66 years of age in 1850 census.

SAMUEL GUTHRIE
not too much known of this son except that he was named in the Travis Guthrie will....his last listing on the Halifax Co., VA. personal property tax lists was 1833....in 1834 and thereafter, a new listing was for an Elizabeth Guthrie
in the northern division of Halifax Co., VA. and I believe
Elizabeth to be the wife of Samuel Guthrie. As yet, no marriage bond has been found.

JAMES GUTHRIE
born ca. 1783...was 67 years of age in the 1850 Census....
married Polly Hubbard on 4 JUN 1810 in Halifax Co., VA.

DENNET GUTHRIE
born ca. 1785...was 65 years of age in the 1850 Census....
married Sally Hart on 23 AUG 1821 in Halifax Co., VA.

ELIJAH GUTHRIE
born ca. 1791...was 59 years of age in the 1850 Census....
married Gartney Vaughn on 7 FEB 1822 in Halifax Co., VA.

FRANCES "FANNY" GUTHRIE
not sure of birth year....married Thomas Milner on 20 OCT 1790 in Halifax Co., VA.(father listed as Travis on bond)..
not sure of death date but before 1850...Thomas Milner was still alive at 85 years of age in the 1850 Census yielding a birth date of 1765.

ELIZABETH "BETSEY" GUTHRIE
not sure of birth year....married Barnett Brackett Owen on 26 OCT 1795 in Halifax Co., VA.(father listed as Travis on bond)

MARY "POLLY" GUTHRIE
not sure of birth year....married Absalom Lain (Lane?) on
20 OCT 1795 in Halifax Co., VA.(father listed as Travis on bond)

SARAH "SALLEY" GUTHRIE
not sure of birth year....married Fredrick Clay on 18 DEC 1801 in Halifax co., VA.(father listed as Travis on bond)

Note 1: There is one other Guthrie female on the marriage register for Halifax Co., VA. that had no relative post bond on her marriage. I believe there's a good chance she was a daughter of Travis Guthrie. She was:

MOURNING GUTHRIE
not sure of birth year....married John Ashby on 1 JAN 1802 in Halifax Co., VA.

Note 2: John Guthrie, the Revolutionary War pensioner, who settled in the northern division of Halifax Co., VA. in 1792, and was born ca. 1760 in Cumberland Co., VA. (per his pension application) is, in my opinion, the younger brother of Travis Guthrie of Halifax Co. He would also be a younger brother of William Guthrie of Cumberland Co., VA.
(mentioned above) who had a positive DNA match to Travis Guthrie of Halifax Co. Once a descendant of John Guthrie, the pensioner, can be located, identified, and tested, I feel sure those DNA results will match those of descendants
of both Travis Guthrie and William Guthrie. It is already known that the DNA results of the Guthries in the southern district of Halifax Co., VA. (descendants of Thomas and of brothers Nathaniel/Charles) do not match those of the northern district.
