I'll let you do the more recent work on your genealogy to prove your relationship to the Doss family. If it is as you have stated, then it would go like this:

1860 Census - Halifax county, VA.
Northern District

#590 William C. Guthrey 42M
Margaret T. 36F
William J. 6M

In the Halifax Co., Va. marriage register, you will find:

William C. Guthrey married Margaret P. Crews
8 JAN 1849
witness : David K. Crews

William C. Guthrey was the son of John Guthrey and wife, Edna Adams with John actually being John, Jr. and the son of the Revolutionary War pensioner from Halifax County.
Go down a few posts (on the Guthrie home page) from this one and you'll see a post entitled "John Guthrey of Halifax Co., VA.". That would be your line if Ora fits the bill.
