Cumberland County, VA. Researchers
Posted by: James Guthrie (ID *****9647) Date: February 27, 2009 at 11:22:21

About 1792 (according to personal property tax records), John Guthrie moved to Halifax County, VA. He had served three separate tours in the Revolutionary War and on 25
SEP 1832, he made application for a RW pension in Halifax County.
In his affadavit, he states "I was born in the county of Cumberland, in the state of Virginia, in the year 1760. My age was recorded in my Father's Family Bible from which I have taken an extract that is now in my possession. I resided in the said county of Cumberland when I entered the service of the revolution. I lived in the said county of Cumberland when the war ended. I lived in that county about ten years after the war ended, then moved into the county of Halifax, Virginia and have lived in that county ever since."
Can any fellow researcher associate this John Guthrie with one of the identified families in Cumberland County, Virginia? Secondly, is there any chance that a Guthrie family Bible survives in Cumberland County?
