My ancestor is Capt. John Lee who founded Leesville, VA. He married Susannah Guthrey. Susannah Guthrey (Gutry) was daughter of Henry Gutry who died May 1764 King William Co., VA as evidenced by the testimony of John LEE. I believe that Henry's wife was Sarah Coleman. There is NO Lawrence Guthrey who can be found in the records. The records for King William Co. are almost nil. There is a major gap between the early records and the next records that are available. From the records, the following has been found indicating the possible and most likely relationships. The LWT of DANIEL Coleman was written 1764 and proved 1/22/1770 Cumberland Co. (WB 2, p. 4). He named "my nine children" - Thomas, Daniel, James, Judith Turner dec'd, SARAH GUTTERY, Ann Glenn, Grizzell Edwards, Lucy Glen, Mary Sim. The LWT of PATIENCE ELLIOTT Coleman was written 7/18/1771 and proved 8/26/1771 Cumberland Co. (WB 2, p. 41). Named among others “my daughter SARAH GUTTERY. HENRY GUTTERY died May 1765 per affidavit of JOHN LEE in the Cumberland Co. Chancery Case over the Estate of Henry GUTTERY. JOHN LEE states he married SUSANNAH GUTTREY, daughter of Henry GUTTERY on 1/13/1764. SARAH Coleman Guthrey, widow of Henry GUTTERY moved to Cumberland Co. after Henry's death and died there 1772 leaving a will naming several of her children - Bernard, William Coleman, Patty, Orania Coleman, SUSANNA LEE, Grizzell Meredith, Philadelphia Elliot and some grandchildren.
