Hello,
I see you posted this on the GUSTIN Forum.

I do know that George Shelby was the son of Patrick Shelby and Rebecca Ligear

I will post this as none of the individuals are still living:

First Generation

1. Patrick SHELBY was born about 1763 in Dublin, Ireland. He died in 1853 in Eckmansville, Adams Co, OH.
Letter from Mrs Hoberta (Shelby) Frost, 25 Feb 1984
Janet Schonert sent Hoberta data on this family, that in turn was compiled by a Shelby Pruder and Margaret Ann Shoemaker, June 1927.

Patrick was age 90, a widower, living with his son William Hamilton, on the 1850 census for Adams Co, OH

Letter to Charles E Shelby [CES]-12 Mar 1971, from Vesper Lovell (V.L.) Shelby, of Bethany, MO:
"...My gr gr grandfather was Patrick Shelby from Dublin Ireland. He married a Ligear from Maryland, lived in Washington Co, PA and moved to Adams Co, OH.
My line:
Patrick Shelby 1763-1853
Nicholas Ligear Shelby 1816-1882
Cyrus Johnathan Shelby 1841-1890
Robert Emmett Shelby 1877-1968
Vesper Lovell Shelby 1903-

Letter to CES-26 Mar 1971, from Vesper:
"...I am mailing under separate cover the Shelby family records...Patrick must have moved his family to Adams Co, OH just prior to 1820-Nicholas was born in 1816 in PA. Patrick died in 1853 (90 years). So this would make his birth at 1763. he ran off, got aboard ship as a stow-a-way-and came this country when he was abt 17 yrs old..He "knocked" around for several years, finally met a lady by the name of Ligear from Maryland..
I wrote to Ireland about a year ago to see if they could find any information on the Shelby family-haven't heard anything as yet.."

Patrick SHELBY and Rebecca LIGEAR were married.
Letter dated April 1971 - Shelby Report No. 5 - From The Department of Incidental Intellignece:
"....About 5 years ago Mrs Shirley Shrigley chanced to contact a Mrs Shelby in Denver, whose husband was of the Patrick Shelby line. Mrs Shrigley copied Mrs Shelby's Bible record, intact and complete, from one of Patrick's sons to date. Mrs Shrigley has also been in contact with a Vesper Shelby of Missouri of this same line, who for a number of years has collected data on his particular line.
The enclosed Patrick Shelby data regretfully torpedoes any thought that ALL Shelbys in USA today stem from Evan."
[Note-Mr Colin James referred to Mrs Shrigley as "Toots Shrigley"]

Letter dated 27 Apr 1971 from Colin James: PATRICK SHELBY DATA
The elderly widow of Lewis Bliss Shelby ( a descendant of the Irish immigrant Patrick Shelby) lives in Denver. She has a family Bible from Patrick's grandson I believe it is), plus a handwritten (in a 5 X 8 notebook) history of Patrick's family. These are invaluable. Toots Shrigley has, I believe, made typed copies of them, but you know how the Mormons are beating the drums these days about the necessity of getting photographic copies of such data, in addition to typed copies, so 100 years hence doubting Thomases cannot quibble over whether "that old Bible - since destroyed - said Azel or Ashel". These LDS do have good ideas - at least genealogically speaking. I heed much of what they pass out, so have euchred my wife into luring Mrs L.B. Shelby down to the xeroxer next week, with the Bible and family history safely under her arm, to get the job done...

Vesper Shelby is I believe you wrote, a descendant of Patrick Shelby..Charles gives name as Vesper Lowell Shelby..
[Note- The Bible, et al, are not among these letters]
