St. Charles (Kane County, Illinois) Chronicle, June 20, 1929. Sea Scout Ship "Pottawatomie" Is Organized Here. Scout Executive A.N. Ekstrand announce that the Sea Scout Ship "Pottawatomie", which was organized last week, is now well under way and through the courtesy of the St.Charles Boat Club, will hold its regular meetings there each Friday. This unit has been organized to take the place of the American Legion Troop 4 and is composed of boys of High School age and is restricted to boys of 15 or older. Wirth Gustafson has been chosen to serve as First Mate with William Powers and Harold Nord as Coxswains of the two ship crews.
Many things are in store for this group and notice has been received from National Headquarters that Chars from the Presidential yacht "Mayflower" are soon to be distributed to Sea Scout unites and the local unit has made application to secure at least one charts.
