April:
I have since discovered that my some of my Gustaf Månsson family, who would have used the surname Gustafsson or Gustafsdotter in Sweden, were enumerated on the 1880 Lucas Co., Iowa Federal Census, Cedar Twp., P 519B, as Mary G. Monson, Frans O. Monson, Nils Otto Monson, Peter A. Monson and Emma C. Monson.Emma was born in Iowa 25 Jul 1872. They used the surname Munson from their father, who was deceased in 1875 and, therefore, was not on the 1880 census.
His son, John Alfred Gustafsson (by his first wife, Johanna Christina Nilsdotter) married Mary J. Holmes, and he took her maiden name as his surname. His brother Anders Fredrik Gustafsson married (I believe) a Bessie P. Olson but Anders also used the surname Holmes.
Gustaf Ferdinand Gustafsson, Gustaf's son by his second wife Greta (known in the US as Mary G. Munson), is said to have married Anna Eizabeth Heinrichs and used the surname Munson.
Frans Oscar married an Emma Anderson, and used the surname Munson.
Per (Peter) August Gustafsson married Alice Bethany Hughes and used the surname Munson.
I am told that Nils Otto married Mary Kaiser, but I don't have any further information on him.
I suspect, but do not know, that Gustaf Månsson's daughter Christine immigrated to the U.S., and used the surname Anderson. I could be totally wrong on this point and am trying to confirm it.
