Hi Pete,
Thanks very much for your message. Is your great grandfather, William, the brickmaker (b1839) who married Mary Winch at Holy Trinity, Leverstock Green in 1861, the same year and place as Thomas G, my great grandfather, married Louisa Odell? If you have William's birth certificate to confirm parents then that makes us third cousins. This is the first time that I've ever contacted distant relatives and it opens up terrific prospects for an interesting history exchange.
A William G (I assume the same) witnessed Thomas G's marriage together with Naomi Odell (b1844).Did you know that, in the following year, Naomi married John Winch (b 1838) and in 1881 they were in Sandridge. The Odells were also in the brick trade.I have collected some info on Louisa's family and her mother's family (Hall) but none of it's confirmed with registries.
There seems to be lots of William and Mary marriages. There was another family in Redbourn in 1881.
According to the 1881 census, our mutual 2x great, grandfather, Thomas, was born in Leverstock Green in 1807 but I haven't yet looked at his St Michael's marriage registration or found official confirmation of his place and date of birth or his parent's names.Do you have any of this?
I would be interested to have details of William and Mary's family and of the line that led to you.I have folders full of Gurney bits and pieces and some may relate to your side of the family.
My e-address is [email protected] we also exchange postal addresses, we'll be able to send copy docs to each other.I'd like to know just how far your family strayed from Leverstock Green over the 140 years.
I look forward to hearing from you again.Kind regards, Alan
