Hello Hal,
My e-mail address wasn’t updated on my post—it’s current now. According to the California death records Mary Cooper Baker (nee Gupton) b. 24 May 1878, Calif, d. 1 Feb 1941, Alameda Co., Calif. Her mother’s maiden name is Vanlandingham. Also, the 1880 Colusa Co., Calif census shows James Gupton age 40, b. Mo living in Orland Twp with his wife Anne age 36, b. Mo and three children:
Rosa or Lisa (can’t make it out) age 8, b. Oregon
       Mary C. age 6, b. Calif
       ? (probably Kindred) age 3 b. Ca
I know they had at least one more child—James b. 29 Jan 1888, Ca, d. 18 Nov 1952, Sacramento Co., Calif.
I’m reasonably sure that James Gupton’s wife was Ann(e) Vanlandingham d/o William W. Vanlandingham (1812- ) and July Ann Woolery who lived in Shelby Co., Mo. In fact, her brother, Isaac Stewart Vanlandingham, is my gg grandfather.
I recently heard from a woman who knows some Guptons and she forwarded my message to them. So far, though, I haven’t heard from them.

Regards,
Stewart Monroe
