After reading your post (dated 1 May 2001), I believe we have the same great-grandfather. I too am very interested in learning more about my "Gunckel" ancestry, but have only been able to do cursory research, since concentrating mostly on my LETSON line. Much of my GUNCKEL information comes from my mother's recollections. She is the daughter of Frances Augusta GUNCKEL Broadwell, who was your grandfather's (Ferdinand) sister. Additional information has come from my uncle, a surviving great aunt and U.S. Census data. Here is what I've got so far.
Charles Ferdinand GUNCKEL (b. Feb 1864 in Kassel Germany, died unknown date in Indianapolis IN) married Elizabeth CLAUS (born Jan 1861 in Essen Germany, died 1918 in Atlanta GA) about 1886 in Germany. They had six children named Dorothea Sophia (born 25 Feb 1887 in Hersfeld Germany; died 27 Nov 1977 in Atlanta GA), Frances Augusta (born 26 Apr 1888 in Indianapolis, IN; died 15 June 1955 in Cobb County GA), Amelia "Molly" (born Oct 1890 in Indianapolis, IN; died unknown date in Atlanta, GA), Ernestina (born Oct 1890 in Indianapolis, IN; died unknown date in Milledgeville, GA), Ferdinand Charles (born 22 Mar 1893 in Indianapolis, IN; died Feb 1979), and Elsie (born Mar 1895 in Indianapolis, IN; died unknown date in New York, NY).
I have some very brief narrative on Charles and Elizabeth. I would be very happy to share this with you.
