Gambrell - Gumbrell - Tountise + Tountes + Tonnlas ???

I need some help. I am Debbie Gambrell Lapeyrouse. We trace our ancestors back to Daniel Gambrell and Rebecca Upfold. I recently found this site:

Listing our surname as Gumbrell. A lot of research has been done on our family and we had that Daniel spelled his name Gambrel instead of Gambrell, but I'd never seen Gumbrell associated with our family.

In addition, the site above says the farthest back ancestor listed just used Gumbrell or Gambrel as an alias and that the original family name was Tountise, Tountes, Tonnlas and the like. I can't find any families with those names anywhere, and this is the only place I have EVER seen those names associated with our family name.

Does anyone have any information and/or clarification on this? Are our ancestors really Tountise, Tountes or whatever? And if so, where the heck did they come from!
