Venissa: The following information on Newton is from Sharon Gullett's book "Gullett Pioneers & Descendants" Newton was born Nov., 1822 and became a very wealthy man. He was a merchant and rancher in Texas. Was son of Samuel Gullett born 14 Nov., 1781 Delaware and he was son of George Gullett and Mary Goslin. Samuel married Rebecca Thompson onj 20 Nov., 1801 Guilfoord Co., North carolina. Newton left Columbia, Tn and in 1850 Moved to New orleans and then shortly after left Louisiana to go to San Antonia , Texas Was involved in land speculation. He served in Civil War for the South and served on staff of General Richardson and got promoted to Captain under General Nathan B. forrest. After the war he was back in New Orleans. He married L.C. carter in 1858 and had two children by her She died in 1870. Secondly married in 1872 in New AOrleans to Mrs. Schortalle D. Barnard and they had one girl born in1873. She had a ranch in Texas called Tivvoli which they wentand lived there. She died in 1883 and the ranch grew to 25 thousand acres. Marriee #3 in 1889 to Mattie A. Deseker. She was born in sElam, Alabama In 1900 he was living in Gavalston and died in the hurricane of that year. It goes on telling more information.
