Looking for information on my Guise/Guize family members in South Carolina.
My GG-Grandfather was N. Amos B. Guise (b abt 1840); Died Nov 21, 1861 of disease near Warren Springs, VA during Civil War. He had married Martha Elvira Swittenberg and had a daughter (Margaret Elvie Guise) born June 3 1860.
Best I can tell he had the following siblings:
Elizabeth "Eliza" Caroline Guise (b. Mar 28, 1827,d. April 4, 1918 in Saluda, Lexington County, SC). She married George M Comalander
Lucinda "Cinthia" born abt 1833 - no further information
Albert A Guise (b.May 28 1843 d. Feb 21, 1930 in Richland County, SC) married Laura Ann Ellen Derrick
While the father of Amos Guise is shown to be Alva Guise on some genealogy sites, the death certificates of Elizabeth and Albert show the father to be Philip Guise; Elizabeth's death certificate lists the mother as Elizabeth Dailey (born in SC). Elizabeth's death certificate also indicates that it is unknown where Philip was born.
Philip Guize died Feb 1850 in Lexington District according to the US Federal Census Mortality Secudles Index. (Age 72)
The children show up on the 1850 census as "Geiger" with their mother Elizabeth. There is another female in the home - Catherine "Daly".
The surname Guise is also listed in a book "Saxe-Gotha, A Genealogical History of Lexington County, SC 1735-1870.
I would be most appreciative if anyone can provide any more information on this family.
