Hi, John,
Personally, I believe they are related, but it would be way back. They are not members of what I would call, for lack of a better term, my "immediate family" :-). My ggggg-grandfather was Patrick Guin/Gwin of Augusta/Rockingham Co., VA, born most likely between 1700-1720. I do believe, although many would disagree, that the Gwin/Guinns in eastern VA and NC were cousins of the Gwins in Augusta, VA. I believe they were all descendents of Hugh and/or Owain Gwynne. In fact, my gggg-grandfather was Hugh, son of Patrick Gwin/Guin (spelling seemed to have changed in late 1700's for my line). I have not done any research on Isham, although I have seen the name. It was passed down in one line of the family. There is an Isham on the 1860 TN census spelled Guin, and an "Isam" (I think it is a misspelling) spelled Guinn. I do not know what line they come from, but it is not from Patrick, at least so far. Now that I've said that, I'll probably find a connection :-)
Cindy
