Hi there, Kenneth! How exciting to have so much genealogical research to examine during your retirement! I hope that maybe the mysterious origin of Jester Gwinn COCKE may be hidden in those piles of papers - as of course, he could be: Jester GUINN, or Jester GUIN or Jester Gwin or Jester Gwyn or Gwynne or Gwynn or even all sorts of Huguenot variations, including I've seen, even Guenon & Guenne, and also spellings seemingly far flung, such as GINN & GUNN. Anyway, for the benefit of future researchers, I thought I'd point out these to links to recent threads about the issue of Cherokee descent. Frazier/Guinn Cherokee application http://genforum.genealogy.com/guinn/messages/1613.html Supreme Court of OK says GUINN Family not Cherokee http://genforum.genealogy.com/guinn/messages/1948.html Good luck with your future researches to determine the facts of this current family mystery.
