I hope someone here is able to help.
I'm researching the family of Benton Cox b. 1859 Polk Co., Ar. He md. Malissa Josephine (Guinn?) b. 1861. The information comes from the 1900 census for Choctaw Nation, Indian Terr., OK where there are a Mollie Guinn and Erastus Guinn listed as living with Bent and Malissa.
They are listed as b-i-l and s-i-l. The problem comes from their ages. Mollie was b. 1883 and Erastus was b. 1885. I am very aware that there can be two marriages and basically have two families (it happened in my grandmother's family). In this case, Malissa is 22 yrs older than Mollie and 24 yrs older than Erastus. So I don't believe that Guinn probably was not Malissa's surname.
Does anyone have any info that could shed some light on this family?
