Hi Jerry,

Patrick Guinn and Jeanett McDonald are my grreat grandparents, as well.

I, too, have been searching for Patrick's father. I have found a lot of information on him in regard to buying/selling land in Augusta County, being in George Washington's militia, etc. but no records of his owning land in James City, as related by Jesse B. Guin. His brothers are John, Robert, and William. His sons are James Washington, Hugh, Randolph, Daniel, etc. There is a Patrick Guin of Pa., but he was not born until 1738 which would make him too young for his marriage date to Jeanett McDonald. So, I don't know if he was of the Hugh Guin line of Gwynne Island, or from a Pa. branch of the family. It could be either, as one of his sons is named Hugh.... Also, there were four Gwyns in the third expedition of colonists leaving London/Va. Company. And, a Richard Gwyn was deported from Scotland via Ireland due to being on the losing side of the British Civil War.

I have seen Robert, Richard, and Edward listed as Patrick's father. J.B. Guin wrote that Patrick was the son of Richard Guin and that Richard Gwyn eas baptised in the Jamestown Methodist Church, but John Wesley was not born until 1707 which would make him approx. the same age as Patrick's father. So, she may have been thinking of Richard Ransome Guin who moved to North Carolina.

I, also, just read/documented that John, Patrick's brother was a barrister/lawyer which means they were a well established family prior to moving to Augusta. But, were they from James City(Hugh/Edward Gwynn),Ireland (of the Lewis Gwynn family), London (John Gwynn), or Wales (Owain Gwynn/Richard Gwynn/John/Edward)?

There are probably records in the Va. Lirary Archives, or the William and Mary papers, but so far, I have not been able to solve the mystery.

It was great to read that someone else was looking for Patrick!

Please let me know if you find anything.. I've spent many, many hours researching this .... C. Guinn
