I recently obtained a copy of the will of James MASSEY (ca. 1735-April 8, 1818) of Wake Co., NC which names Alfred & Jinny GUIN as his grandchildren, the children of his daughter Sarah SUGG (1777-8/9/1865). James MASSEY's wife was Jane POE, daughter of Simon POE (abt. 1706-abt. 1793) and the sister of James S. Poe (ca. 1741-1827). Sarah at that time was the wife of Joel SUGG (2/16/1781-2/22/1818)of Wake County, NC. Joel's will also mentions Alfred & Jinny GUIN. After Joel died, & between 1820 & 1830, Sarah Sugg moved with some of her children to Randolph Co., NC. She is listed as head of household on the 1830 census of Randolph Co., and a few households away is her son Alfred GUIN. Sarah's other children were Warren Sugg (1805), Russel Massey Sugg (1811), Gilley (1807)and Merritt Andrews Sugg (1814). Warren inherited the land in Wake Co. when he came of age & stayed there all his life. Russel & Merritt SUGG remained in Randolph Co.

I had no idea until a few days ago that Sarah Massey Sugg was married & had children before she married Joel Sugg. They are my ggggrandparents. Warren Sugg is my gggrandfather.

I have more information about Sarah and her children if you are interested. I would like to know more about the Guins. Please let me hear from you!
