My great great grandmother was a Guild, with her roots in Milton (Litchfield) Connecticut and back to the early settlement of Massachusetts. This branch of the family pronounces Guild to rhyme with wild, as you do.

It is pretty certain that its ancestry does NOT derive from Scotland. Marg Guild Lambert who posts on this site has written a vast and excellent genealogy of the family, "Descendants of John Guild and Elizabeth Crooke of Dedham, Massachusetts Circa 1636 - 2006"; 915 pages. You might find it helpful.
