Kathleen A relative recently sent me a photo of a wall relief (engraving) at the Boston State House dedicated to and of Curtis Guild. Also, I have an article from The Boston Herald dated Sunday, Oct. 23, 1983. It is from a column called "Great Families of Boston" by Joe Heaney. Mr. Heaney interviewed a man named Bill Guild about his Guild ancestry. The article states that Bill Guild is a descendant of Samuel Guild and 4th cousin twice removed to Curtis Guild. I just looked for the photo and couldn't find it. But I found the article and it has more info about Curtis Guild than I thought. It tells that Curtis Guild was a 2 term governor of MA and a former ambassador to Russia. He was "known as an advocate of public parks and a a vigorous defender of Boston Common....." The article also mentions a set of stairs dedicated to Curtis Guild "leading from the Common to Beacon Street, opposite Joy Street." If you want more info from the article or a copy of the article send me an e-mail. I think the Dedham (Norfolk County), MA area is where you will find more info on Curtis Guild. A while back I came across a several volume History of Dedham, MA, which I remember as having some info on Curtis Guild as well as several other Guilds. Stoughton, MA (Norfolk County?) may also be a place to look, though it was formerly part of Dedham, MA. Interestingly this article shows a portrait of Curtis Guild, and also has a photograph of Bill Guild with a bust of his ancestor Samuel Guild. Reading the article I think the bust is of Samuel Guild (1777-1862), grandson of Nathaniel Guild and a descendent of Samuel Guild, brother of John & Ann. Vicky
