I have enjoyed reading some of your research regarding other branches of my family. The fact that Onesime was white did not surprise me. This was a common occurance in SW Louisiana. I once read something written by Dr. Claude Ourbe regarding the "Latin" nature of early colonial Louisiana and ST. Landry Parish in particular, how many of the attitudes regarding interacial relations in LA. resembled those of Latin America more so than the English colonies and latter United States.
Lee what do you have on "my Modeste"? There are a number of other women with the same name. This has caused me some difficutly in tracking my ancestor.
