I have information on the family of Onesime Louis Guidy and Modeste Potier in my WorldConnect Project file. It is too much to post on Genforum. My database is leecrockett.

Onesime Louis Guidry and Modeste Potier had five children:
Aspasie, Alexis, Louis, Felix, and Ophelia Guidry. The wife of Onesime Louis Guidry, Modeste Potier, was Mulatto. As far as I can see from my own research, Louisiana did not forbid interracial marriages. There were many of these occurrences as referenced in the SWLA CD. If there was a Louisiana law forbidding interracial marriages, it did not appear to be enforced.

1880 United States Federal Census
Home in 1880: 1st Ward, Saint Landry, Louisiana
Household Members: Name Age
Onezine Guidry 68 M (*W) M LA Farmer
Aspasie Guidry 39 F M LA Daughter
Ophelia Guidry 18 F M LA Daughter
Modeste Guidry 55 F M LA *Illegible as to what the relationship but most likely this is Modeste Potier.
Alcee Parodin 11 M M LA Grandson
Marie Modeste Gudry 11M F M LA Granddaughter
Louis Thiebordeau 22 M M LA Laborer
Source Citation: Year: 1880; Census Place: 1st Ward, Saint Landry, Louisiana; Roll: T9_469; Family History Film: 1254469; Page: 166.3000; Enumeration District: 39; Image: 0338.

*On the actual census the race appears to be White not Mulatto for Onezime Louis Guidry. The rest of the family appears to be Mulatto. Louis, Felix, and Alexis Guidry are living next door to their parents in the 1880 census record.
