on the 1900 census, Louisiana, Vermillion Parish, Spring Hill, Ward 6....Lillian Stanford is listed as adopted by Marie NUNEZ Guidry. His actual name is William Lillian (aka Leo) Stanford, born Feb 10, 1886 in Oxford, Lafayette County, Mississippi. This is my grandfather. He died in Dec, 1934 and family members only know that he was adopted. We have found in marriage records that his parents were John Stanford and Emma (Moncrief) Stanford but we don't know where they were from...can't find on any census record. I am hoping the Guidry family might be able to give some kind of info on this adoption, where, when, why..if related in some way. Any info would very much be appreciated.
