Daniel Guffey b. 1826 TN, married twice??
I recently came across a marriage record in Howard, Elk, Co., KS, 19 Aug 1897 -Daniel Guffey, 70, of Arkansas, married Ellen Geer, 54, of Howard, at the bride's home in Elk County. Rebecca Ellen Barton Geer, who usually went by "Ellen" was my 2nd great grandmother, and this was her 2nd marriage, confirmed by the marriage record. She lived in Howard, Elk County in 1895 (Kansas State Census), and had made her home there for years, so this is assuredly her. Also, her father was listed as John Barton on the marriage record, which is correct.
This was also listed as Daniel Guffey's second marriage on the marriage record; it said he was b. in TN, occupation mechanic, and his parents were Joshua Guffey and Elizabeth (looks like "Kings" -sloppy writing).
I know Daniel Guffey originally married Nancy Jane Fraker and they had a bunch of kids and, according to trees posted online, Nancy appears to have died in or around 1898 in Labette Co., KS.
These online trees also indicate that Daniel died 1919 in Caney, Montgomery CO., KS. In the 1915 Kansas State Census, Daniel, 88, b. TN, and Ellen Guffey, 75, b. OH, were living in Sedan, Chautaqua County, a neighboring county to Montgomery Co. The census also indicated that Daniel came to Kansas from Missouri.
Is anyone aware that Daniel Guffey married a second time to Ellen Geer? This sure looks like the same Daniel Guffey who married Nancy Jane Fraker and left many descendants.
