Pearson Guess, born about 1816, married to Salena. His full name was Emanuel Pearson Guess.Salena’s maiden name is unknown to me.Pearson’s name comes from an affidavit filed by a son, named Emanuel P. Guess, 22 Dec 1902.The son Emanuel P. Guess was born 1853 and had married an Indian girl in OK in 1876.
On Feb 8th, 1887 Congress passed the Dawes Act which gave the President authority to break up communal Indian Reservation land and distribute it to individual tribe members. To be eligible for this land giveaway individuals had to enroll with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and provide an affidavit proving they were Indian; either by blood or marriage.Emanuel P. Guess and family filed affidavits for enrollment December 22nd, 1902.
Per the affidavit:Emanuel P. Guess was listed as Choctaw by marriage. His father's name was given as Emanuel P. Guess, thus revealing Pearson Guess' full name to be Emanuel Pearson Guess. His mother's name was given as Salina. He had been a resident of Oklahoma for 27-28 years (arrived in 1873-1874).He married Rhoda Folsom February 15th or 16th in 1876.Rhoda was the daughter of John Folsom and Monette Durant and was 1/2 Choctaw by blood.
