Bonjour Donna

Thank you for replying to my message. Are you able to e-mail me direct rather than going through Forum it may be easier to exchange information. m.gue@tesco.net

The Gue name is French and does not come from the name that is suggested. Gue with an accent over the e is an original name for a water crossing or river walk. The name derives from the man who looked after the crossing, ford, or river walk and collected the tolls for the land owner or ferry owner. I have a French namesake who lives in Bordeaux and he has proof that the name comes from Brittany in the north west of France. Michel and I exchange e-mails on a regular basis and in fact my wife and I are going to France in 2 weeks time and we shall be meeting up with Michel and his family. We have a holiday home in France. The name GUE (with an accent over the e)is in the French dictionary. The name Guoni we do not think is French. The word does not appear in the French dictionary. Most of the USA Gue's originally came from North West France at about the time of the French Revolution. The Bretons are known as good seamen and navigators. The Gue families in the UK arrived at two seperate times. First during the 1400s about the time when the English were fighting the French. Most of these settled in the east and middle part of England. The second group, who were my ancestors, escaped from the French revolution during the 1750s and they came from the area around Brest.

I can give you more information if you wish. Perhaps you would like to contact me direct via my e-mail.

Au revoir

Michael Gue
